Sermon Notes

May 6th
Sermon Title:“Who Is Worthy?”
Scripture:Psalm 22:25-31 & 1 John 4:7-21 & Acts 8:26-40
Thoughts for Preparation: The Body of Christ, the Church, is radically different from other groups of human beings because it recognizes that God calls all people to worship and serve. It's not like a club where you have to wear the right clothes or earn a certain amount or know the right people. You only have to know Christ and the only initiation is when he claims you in the waters of baptism.

May 13thMother's Day
Sermon Title:“An Unlikely Invitation”
Scripture:Psalm 98 & Acts 10:25-44
Thoughts for Preparation: Peter must have been pretty comfortable ministering and preaching to his fellow Jews. It was "home turf" evangelism but then he received an invitation from Cornelius, a Gentile, to preach the gospel to his people. Peter answered this call. So should we. The disciple is to carry the gospel into plac-es where we may feel unfamiliar.

May 20thGraduate Recognition Sunday
Sermon Title:“Allotted Shares”
Scripture:Psalm 1 & Acts 1:15-17, 21-26
Thoughts for Preparation:Shortly after the death of Judas Iscariot there was a small crisis within the small community of the disciples. They needed a new person to step in and become a minister of the Gospel. They chose this person from within their ranks, relying on the guidance of God. This was the beginning of a long line of ministerial succession that the church continues to use.

May 27th
Sermon Title:“Pentecost & Communion”
Scripture:
Fairview's Mission Partner, Captain Cameron Henderson, of the Salvation Army, will be our guest preacher.

June 3rdTrinity Sunday
Sermon Title:“Spirit of Adoption”
Scripture:Isaiah 6:1-8 & Psalm 29 & Romans 8:12-17
Thoughts for Preparation:Immortal, invisible, almighty, otherworldly and completely separate from mortal, visible, weak and worldly human beings. It is an audacious claim by the faithful that mere mortals, created beings, can and will be adopted into the household of the Creator God. This is what we believe. Easter has made it so.
